ROHM has launched ESD protection diodes that support high-speed I/Fs of 10Gbps and above.

The globally renowned semiconductor manufacturer ROHM (headquartered in Kyoto, Japan) announced today the launch of the ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection diode series "RESDxVx" featuring industry-leading ultra-low dynamic resistance (Rdyn) *1 and ultra-low capacitance characteristics. This product line is suitable for numerous application areas that require high-speed data transmission. 

In recent years, in the industrial equipment and automotive markets, the popularity of high-speed signal transmission has become increasingly prominent along with the trend of miniaturization and high performance of electronic devices. Correspondingly, the requirements for ESD protection measures at the system (circuit board, module) level have become increasingly stringent. On the other hand, with the development of multi-functionality, high performance, and miniaturization technologies, the tolerance of ICs to electrical overload (EOS) and electrostatic discharge (ESD) is showing a downward trend. Therefore, the demand for external ESD protection devices that simultaneously offer "low capacitance (to suppress signal degradation during high-speed communication)" and "excellent IC protection performance through low dynamic resistance" is increasing day by day. Especially in the next-generation communications above 10Gbps, even a small difference in parasitic capacitance can have a significant impact on the communication waveform. However, there is a trade-off between reducing parasitic capacitance and dynamic resistance, so how to balance communication quality and IC protection has become an urgent issue to be addressed. 

In response to this, ROHM has launched the RESDxVx series of products, which can address this issue and support higher-speed communication. The new products not only achieve lower capacitance but also lower dynamic resistance. For high-speed communication interfaces exceeding 10 Gbps, a low-dispersion ESD protection diode is required that can control signal degradation at a lower level and has excellent IC protection performance. The new products achieve ultra-low capacitance characteristics with inter-pin capacitance*3 of only 0.24 pF (bidirectional) and 0.48 pF (unidirectional). At the same time, the dynamic resistance, which has a trade-off relationship with this characteristic, has also been reduced to 0.28 Ω. Compared with ordinary products, its clamp voltage*4 has decreased by approximately 40%, ensuring excellent IC protection performance. 

These advantages help enhance the reliability of various high-speed data communication devices (such as AI servers and industrial equipment like 5G/6G communication devices, consumer electronics such as laptops and game consoles, etc.). Additionally, the "RESDxVxBASAFH" and "RESDxVxUASAFH" with DFN1006-2W package meet the requirements of the automotive electronic product reliability standard AEC-Q101 and are also applicable to applications such as ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), AD (Autonomous Driving) cameras, and ECU (Electronic Control Unit) that use SerDes*5 communication. 

The new product began mass production in March 2026 (the sample price is 70 yen per unit, excluding tax), and has already started online sales. It can be purchased through various e-commerce platforms. 

ROHM will continue to expand its product lineup of low-capacity ESD protection diodes and TVS diodes in the future, contributing to the development of electronic technologies such as AI servers, communication infrastructure, and autonomous driving systems, and helping to achieve a safe, reliable and comfortable digital society.
