STMicroelectronics 3A single-chip step-down converter: highly compact design, high energy efficiency, low material cost

STMicroelectronics will introduce the DCP3603 single-chip 3A step-down converter at the 2026 Asia-Pacific Power Electronics Applications Conference (APEC). This chip simplifies power design, saves PCB board space, shortens the product launch cycle, and enhances system reliability.

The input voltage range of the device is 3.3V to 36V. It is compact in size and easy to use, and can be applied to power supply for smart meters, household appliances, and industrial 24V loads, etc.

The DCP3603 offers two fixed switching frequency versions: 1 MHz and 500 kHz. It can be configured to operate in the forced PWM (pulse width modulation) mode, which is suitable for noise-sensitive scenarios to achieve optimal performance. It can also operate in the frequency hopping intermittent mode.

Both versions adopt a synchronous rectification architecture and are equipped with frequency jitter technology, which can reduce switching noise radiation and maintain high conversion efficiency throughout the full load range.

The chip size is only 3×1.6mm. It integrates power switch tubes and compensation circuit components internally. Only by combining with an inductor, bootstrap capacitor, filter capacitor and feedback resistor on the periphery, a complete power supply solution can be formed.

DCP3603 is now in mass production, using the SOT23-6 pin package, with a minimum order quantity of 1,000 pieces. At the same time, the dedicated evaluation board STEVAL-3603BC1 has also been launched and is available for selection and testing.
